String audition for the Long Bay Youth Symphony will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at Ocean View Baptist Church, 7300 N King's Hwy. Myrtle Beach, SC 29579.
Winds/Brass/Percussion auditions will be held on Wednesday November 14, 2018 at Trinity Church, 3000 N King's Hwy. Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. Audition applications can be emailed to email@example.com. Once an application is received, an audition time will be assigned. Please communicate a desired audition time between 4 and 7PM.

Membership: The Long Bay Youth Symphony is open to players of all orchestral instruments, from 7th graders to college undergraduates (some exceptions to this may be granted, at the discretion of the director). There are only limited positions available for woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All members must re-audition each year.

Notification of Acceptance: Candidates will be notified of their acceptance status via email as soon as possible following their audition, but no later than the end of the week. Rehearsal attendance is mandatory, so mark your calendars now!
Excerpts: You must play excerpts from the scheduled music for the Fall LBYS concert (files are found directly below). Do your best to come as close as possible to the indicated tempos and be careful to observe any written dynamics, articulations, etc. Please be aware that the excerpts are primarily for placement within each string section.
Major Scales: Up to 4 flats/sharps (A-flat major/E major): You will be asked to play 2 different scales. Be prepared to play them in a manner in which you are accustomed. (Minimum speed: quarter note = 60 beats/min.)
Brief Solo: A performance of a part of a solo or etude that is approximately 2 minutes in length. All-Region solo excerpts would be acceptable for this audition.
Winds & Brass

Sight Reading: Candidates may be asked to sight read a short musical selection.
Brief Solos: Prepare 2 brief solos/etudes. One on snare drum and another one on mallets. All-County/All-Region solo excerpts will be acceptable for this audition.
Sight Reading: Candidates may be asked to sigh read a short musical selection.
Timpani (optional): If you have timpani experience, please bring a timpani etude/solo as well.
