String audition for the Long Bay Youth Symphony will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Trinity Church, 3000 N King's Hwy. Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
Winds/Brass/Percussion auditions will be held on Thursday November 14, 2019 at the CCU Band Hall.

Once an application is received, an audition time will be assigned. Please communicate a desired audition time between 4 and 7PM.

Membership: The Long Bay Youth Symphony is open to players of all orchestral instruments, from 7th graders to college undergraduates (some exceptions to this may be granted, at the discretion of the director). There are only limited positions available for woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All members must re-audition each year.

Is there a tuition to be involved in LBYS? Yes. A $130 tuition is required for involvement in the Youth Symphony. This fee covers personnel costs, music, equipment, snacks, professional coaching, and other administrative costs. Payment can be broken into 2 payments of $65 and scholarships are available. Notification of Acceptance: Candidates will be notified of their acceptance status via email as soon as possible following their audition, but no later than the end of the week. Rehearsal attendance is mandatory, so mark your calendars now!
Excerpts: You must play excerpts from the selections below which will be used to determine both acceptance into the Youth Symphony as well as placement within the section.
Solo: A solo of your choosing demonstrating contrasting styles (no accompaniment necessary)
Winds & Brass
Major Scales: Up to 4 flats/sharps (A-flat major/E major): You will be asked to play 2 to 3 different scales. Be prepared to play them in a manner in which you are accustomed. (Minimum speed: quarter note = 60 beats/min.)
Brief Solo: A performance of a part of a solo or etude that is approximately 3 minutes in length. All-Region solo excerpts will be acceptable for this audition.
Brief Solos: Prepare 2 brief solos/etudes. One on snare drum and another one on mallets. All-County/All-Region solo excerpts will be acceptable for this audition.
Timpani (optional): If you have timpani experience, please bring a timpani etude/solo as well.
